I would think that living in America most of us think of ourselves as free. We are free to speak our minds, free to wear our hair in any style or color, we are free to vote for who we want, free to verbalize our thoughts and feelings, free to dislike who we want; we are even free to worship who we want, and where we want. As Christians most of us know that God has a plan for our lives, that plan starts with freedom. Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

The problem is that the Enemy has a plan for our lives as well. He began to attack me at the age of three. What kind of enemy attacks an innocent child; this one does. Sin leads to bondage, whether they are sins you commit or ones committed against you. God tells us that we are forgiven and we have been redeemed. (Truth) The Enemy wants us to believe that were are beyond forgiveness and redemption. (lies) Our Father tells us that to be forgiven we must forgive others (truth) but the enemy wants us to believe that what these people did to us is beyond forgiveness. (lies) He (Satan) wants us to believe that a loving God would have stepped in and stopped our abuse, our neglect, our pain, instead of asking us to forgive these people. (lies)

But Satan is not only a liar but he is the Father of lies. John 8: 44 says: “…When he lies, he speaks in his native language, for he is a liar and the Father of lies.” What he is doing is taking the focus off your true enemy, (him) and turning the focus to these pawns in his game. Understanding this is a huge part of forgiveness by the way. These people are puppets that need grace as much as we do.

Do you know what holding on to anger, shame, resentment, hate and fear would be, a victory for Satan. That was his plan all along, for us to be in bondage. John 8: 32 says, “ Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Are you free today, free from the bondage of sin?
